Abstract

Hamster kidney cells treated with trypsin and grown on a coverslip were infected with yellow fever virus, 17D strain. One-step growth curves were determined, and cytological changes that occurred in the infected cells during the period from the end of the latent phase through the logalithmic phace were observed by immunofluorescent staining techniques. Slight fluorescence was seen in the cytoplasm 24 hours after the infection and at 48 to 96 hours after the virus inoculation, the specific fluorescence was distinct. The reaction was noted mainly in the cytoplasm and the juxta nuclear areas; flurorescent dotts adhering to the nuclear contour were also found in some cells. Cytoplasmic inclusion-like bodies showing, intense fluorescence were clearly realized.
