Abstract
We studied about the pathogenesis of fatty liver with obesity from the effect of diet therapy on liver function tests, histological findings and 100g OGTT-IRI. The obesity index and liver function tests improved by diet therapy of 20-25 kcal/kg of standard body weight. Fatty changes of the liver also improved but were not so good as improvement of obesity index, and were often revealed in patients within±10% of obesity index after diet therapy. Hyperreaction of serum IRI after OGTT were marked and significantly higher than obese subjects without fatty liver.
Hyperreaction of IRI was also improved by diet therapy but not normalized when patients were obese, though obesity was slight. Normal reaction of IRI had been got when the obesity index was near or below the standard body weight. In the case of fatty liver, hyperreaction of serum IRI was thought to be easily occurred by slight obesity. And then stronger obese state or fatty changes in the liver would be brought by action of hyperinsulinemia.
