Abstract
A 23-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of jaundice and disturbed consciousness in October, 1984. Laboratory findings were as follows: Total-bilirubin, 5.0 mg/dl. GOT, 5430U/I. GPT, 4360U/I. NH3, 131μg/dl. Prothrombin time 26%. BUN, 57.0mg/dl. Creatinine 3.5mg/dl. HBsAG×8 (RPHA).Her consciousness level was assessed in grade 2 hepatic encephalopathy. She was diagnosed as having fulminant type B hepatitis with renal failure and was treated with prednisolone, glucagon-insulin, plasma exchange and hemodialysis. She recovered completely on the 19th hospital day. This patient was a rare survived case of fulminant type B hepatitis with renal failure.
