Abstract
Sialolithiasis, the occurrence of calculeous concretions in the major and minor salivary glands and their ducts, is the most common in lateral submandibular duct, but is extremely rare in bilateral submandibular ducts or glands. We recently experienced two cases of bilateral submandibular sialolithiasis and reported on them with some comments based on the literature. The removed calculi were 5×3×1mm, 10×7×5mm, 4×4×4mm, 2×2×2mm and 9×5×3mm, 3×3×3mm, 3×2.5×2.5mm, 10×9×9mm in size. The microradiogram of the salivary calculi showed a structure made of concentric layers surrounding central cores. The X-ray microanalysis showed that the calculi contained chemalal elements such as Ca, P, Mg, Al, Si, K. The average molar Ca/P ratio was 1.63.
