Abstract
A 15 year - old Japanese female who had bilateral impacted mandibular second molars was treated. The second molars were extracted. After one month of observation, a lingual arch was placed on the lower first molars and the mandibular left third molar was banded. Sectional arch wire was inserted in the mandibular left molar region and leveling was started. Although the extraction of the bilaterally impacted second molars involved infrabony periodontal defect, periodontal health was recovered 6 months later. The right third molars erupted spontaneously and the left third molar was leveled. Then, .022×.028 inch preadjusted edgewise brackets were bonded on the remaining teeth, and the upper first premolars and lower left first premolar were extracted. The lower third molars erupted and came into occlusion after active treatment. The patient exhibited group functioned occlusion during lateral excursion. However, she did not have any subjective clinical symptoms.
