Numerous reports have been accumulated on the therapeutic effect and side-reactions of Tbl since its debut in 1946. In the meantime, Hoggartb, Donvick, Spinks et al introduced p-ethylsulfonylbenzaldehyde-thiosemiearbazone (PE), a thiosemicarbazone derivative. On animal experiments, they reported, that PE, as compared with Tbl, maintains higher blood concentration for a longer period and its therapeutic effect is greater than Tbl, and moreover it is less toxic despite its lower antibacterial effect in vitro.
