Objective: This study aims to address and evaluate the contents of a comprehensive survey conducted with the Ehime Prefectural Education Committee’s Human Rights Education Division. The survey was part of a research project led by a team of university faculty members that addressed issues related to mental health and social adaptation among elementary and junior high school students in Ehime Prefecture.
Methods: From June to July 2023, a survey was conducted through an information and communications (ICT) based learning support system. Psychological assessments, using 10 scales, were administered across four survey rounds. A total of 40,554 students participated, comprising fifth and sixth graders in all public elementary schools and first and second graders in public junior high schools within Ehime Prefecture.
Results: The findings provided essential baseline data on student mental health and highlighted the significance of providing mental health support to students. Furthermore, participation in the survey likely allowed students to engage in self-reflection and enhance their self-awareness.
Future directions: It is essential to leveraging this study’s insights for educational purposes, particularly in enhancing students’ interpersonal relationship skills. From 2024 onward, the Ehime Prefectural Education Committee plans to develop a program that utilizes the ICT learning support system to foster students’ relationship-building skills and support educators’ classroom management.
