A case of Merkel cell carcinoma of the skin in a 67-year old female was reported. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that cytoplasm of many tumor cells was positive with neuron specific enolase(NSE) in diffuse pattern, and keratin was localized at perinuclear cytoplasm in dot pattern. Subunits of keratin, MA902,AE1/3,CAM5.2 were positive but MA904 was negative. Electron-microscopical studies showed that not a few of the dense-cored neuroendocrine granules in cytoplasm were present beneth the plasma membrane and perinuclear filament whorl was also present. The study conformed that these findings are considered to be valuable markers for diagnosis of Merkel cell carcinoma.
