Every institution of higher education is actively introducing computer education for new students. But in the process of teaching students how to use computers, there was found to be a great difference in the ability of the students in regard to computer processing of information. Among the students entering our school as well, there was found to be a pronounced difference in ability to process information. Because of this, from this year we decided to try the use of individual instruction in computer education for our incoming students in our Department of Medical Technology. In this paper, we introduce the methodology behind individual instruction for large number of students. We also examine the content and effect of this instruction in computer education. Generally, simultaneous instructions are given for large groups in computer education. But individual instruction is more appropriate to handle the great differences in ability in processing of information. It is indeed possible to teach a large number of students uslng individual instruction by means of a school-wide network system. Various types of educational helps were tried for freshmen in the Department of Medical Technology. A survey was also taken to make clear the effectiveness of the instruction. According to the results of the survey and recording of scores in typing, individual instruction of the students had a certain amount of success. The efforts made in the teaching of keyboard typing and in the choice of the teaching materials were well received by the students.
