Dr. Tsuguyuki Saito of The University of Tokyo, Dr. Yoshiharu Nishiyama of CERMAV, France, and I received the Marcus Wallenberg Award in 2015, for our development of an energy-efficient method to produce nanofibrillated cellulose. The Award Ceremony was held in Stockholm on September 28th, being graced with the presence of their Majesties, and the Award Symposium was held the next day. The outline of the Award Ceremony and related events is reported in this paper, together with the summary of our nanocellulose researches, the recent trend of nanocellulose R&D in the world, the history of Marcus Wallenberg Award and future prospects of nanocelluloses.
