Abstract
Helicenes, which possess twisted pi-conjugated systems, are known to exhibit various photophysical functions such as nonlinear optical (NLO) effects and circularly-polarized luminescence (CPL). Here, we report the first synthesis of silole-fused helicenes. The obtained silahelicenes demonstrated strong blue emission both in solution and solid states [maximum wavelength = 432 nm (solution), 432 nm (solid); quantum yield = 23% (solution), 17% (solid)]. These quantum yields are the highest among those of the previously-reported helicenes.
