Abstract
Among weak molecular interactions, the pi-pi interaction is very important in biomolecles and constructing supramolecular architecture. We report here a new type of pi-accepting host macrocycle which has a cavity sandwiched between two parallel pyromellitic diimide pi-faces. We have selected dialkoxynaphthalene derivative as a rigid spacer to arrange pyromellitic diimide unit cofacially with the distance of about 7 angstrom, which is suitable for pi-stacking of aromatic pi-systems. From X-ray crystal analysis and UV/Vis spectra, it was proved that this cavity includes aromatic pi-electron donor molecules via CT interaction.
