Abstract

The effects of soil application of 8 granular insecticides against the foxglove aphid Aulacorthum solani (Kaltenbach)on soybean, potato, and chinese yam were examined from 2007 to 2009. Regardless of the test crop, nitenpyram and thiamethoxam among neonicotinoid insecticides were effective in reducing the number of the insect, but dinotefuran, acetamiprid, clothianidin and imidacloprid were less effective than the above two insecticides. On the other hand, ethylthiomethone in organophosphate insecticides was effective on the reduction in the number of this species, but the effect of acephate varied according to the year. All of the 6 neonicotinoid insecticides were highly effective in controlling the cotton aphid Aphis gossypii Glover on chinese yam; however, none of the organophosphate insecticides showed high effectiveness.
