Abstract
Three kinds of ointments such as Grave Salbe Thimenosal and Mercurocrom Salbe were used in a Preliminary Screening Test in an attempt to determine which ointments warranted further testing as protective agents against the penetration of cercariae of S. japonicum. Of these 3 preparations Timenosal in the Hg dilution of 1 : 500 gave 90-95 “Per Cent Relative Protection” for mice for 30 mimutes against the cercariae of S. japonicum.
The experiments with the other 2 preparations in every dilution were disappointing.
