Abstract
Recent trends in serum cholesterol in Gunma Prefecture from 1993 to 2000 were reported based on mass screening data by the Gunma Health Foundation.
Average total serum cholesterol is increasing and the prevalence of hypocholesterolemia is decreasing, possibly due to an increase in some age group. This is thought due to the increase of obese or near-obese status.
Total Serum cholesterol and the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia in Gunma Prefecture are lower than the national average, apparently due to low meat consumption in this prefecture.
