On Riemannian manifolds admitting a function whose gradient is of constant norm

Let M be a complete Riemannian manifold which admits a smooth funotion f such that ||∇f||≡const. holds for the gradient vector field of f. We show that the Ricci curvature of M controlls such f considerably.
