Abstract
The era of automated driving has come. Introducing driving automation technologies into commercial vehicles may have substantial impact on operations of commercial drivers. Still, it is important for commercial drivers to have appropriate attitude and knowledge as a “driver” since the vehicles will not be fully automated but would be equipped with driving assistance systems. This paper discusses what kind of knowledge the drivers should have, what kind of attitude is needed, and how we can evaluate drivers’ knowledge and attitude. In particular, we point out that driver aptitude test plays an important role for the safe usage of vehicles with driving assistance systems. Possible items to be evaluated are also proposed from the viewpoint of overtrust in driving automation.
