Abstract
This paper introduces an outline of Leaner Centered-Design which 'Communications of ACM'(Vol. 39, No.4, 1996) edited as the special section and its two examples, "Student Communities for the Advancement of Knowledge" and "The Collaboratory Notebook". In the former, the communal date base as is called CSILE(Computer Supported Intentional Learning) was developed on the base of the idea of Knowledge-Building Community. In the latter, the Collaboratory Notebook was developed on the background of the philosophy of "communities of practice".Two examples are full of suggestions for the reform of education in the Japanese universities.
