Abstract

As revealed in previous studies, when Japanese language learners from China do searching over the Internet, they have problems in 1) thinking of the correct keyword and 2) relying too much on the Kanji characters. This time with 11 students from China as our target,we have them performed 7 searching tasks and conducted an interview for the investigation of the above captioned problems and other possible problems. As for keywords,it is easy to extract keywords from the given articles, but it is difficult to think of the keywords in Japanese for thoughts. The tendency to rely heavily on Kanji is not improved along with the language proficiency. We also witness other problems such as 1) presumption of the answer of the searching task, and thus neglecting information that is out of the presumed zone. 2) when evaluating the search result, the number of site with the wanted information is graded rather than the quality of the information. 3) no confirmation of the self-made conclusion. A possible cause of the problems is the over-simplified evaluation criteria,i.e. the lack of multi-angle,critical analysis to the search result.
