In this paper, the author described about some results of the studies on the changes of amylase and catalase activities in winter buds of mulberry trees during bud sprout.
1. Amylase activity per unit dry matter of mulberry buds increases remarkably according to their budding. The buds begin to increase their amylase activity when they are about to sprout, namely when dry matter of mulberry buds is going to increase, and show the maximum power when the first leaf streches.
Then the activity of amylase decreases gradually until some constant powers are obtained in the middle of May.
2. Catalase in the definite dry matter of mulberry buds also increases the activity according to their budding, and shows the maximum power when the buds are about to sprout, that is, when the water percentage of mulberry buds shows one maximum value. Then the activity of catalase decreases gradually and at last shows almost constant values in the middle of May. Although catalase shows the similar changes to amylase, the maximum period of the former auticipates that of the latter.
