Abstract
Viscosities (η) of liquid silk of matured silkworms (Bombyx mori and Nd-s) were determined. Parallel plate plastometer was used to measure the viscosities at various pressures and temperatures. The liquid silk fibroin and sericin showed Newtonian behavior. ηs of liquid silks of water contents 75% and 86% were 1.4× 104 and 7.6 × 10 poise, respectively. Relationship between the water content (75-86%) and log η of the liquid silk was linear. The apparent activation energy of flow of the liquid silk was 12 kcal/mol.
