Abstract
The purpose of this study is to make clear the relationship between particle size and average degree of polymerization of polymers for the esthetic properties, the process of dough preparation, and the physical properties of the processed resins. The experimental materials by Mitubisi Rayon Co. was utilized and the size of the polymer particles varies from 40 mesh to 200 mesh. Material H.DAC is average degree of polymerization 6000-8000. And L.DAC is 2000-4000 degree.
The series of these experiments clearly shows that the difference in particle size can not be correlated with any particular physical properties of processed resin, but the esthetic properties is different. A large polymer of particle size 40-80 mesh is likely to produce a somewhat mottled appearance in the finished denture base.
The degree of polymerization is more effective than particle size, in the process of dough, preparation and H.DAC is markedly rapid in the same process, while L.DAC is slow in this process.
