Abstract

 Gotoba no in Kunaikyo (後鳥羽院宮内卿)was born and died at an unknown date. She entered the Go-Toba-in Imperial Poetry Club around the age of 16. She was highly acclaimed as a waka poet of the Shin-Kokin period, tracing her poetry composition activities reveals only four years of composition activity from 1200 to 1203 AD. Her waka poems, which were under the influence of the Shin-Kokin period, are characterized by a rich sense of color.
 The 360number uta-awase(三百六十番歌合)is a contest of poems composed from the works of 36 existing poets at the time of 1200 A.D, including Gotoba no in, Fujiwara no Yoshitsune, Jien, Fujiwara no Toshinari, Shokushi Naishinno(prince shikiko), Fujiwara no Teika, and Jakuren.
 There are nine waka poems by Gotoba no in Kunaikyo in the 360number uta-awase. The nine waka poems are arranged into two spring poems, one summer poem, two autumn poems, one winter poem, and three miscellaneous poems. In addition, The nine waka poems have a one-to-one relationship with the following waka poets:Fujiwara Kanemune, Shokushi Naishinno, Fujiwara Takafusa, Fujiwara no Teika, Kujo Yoshitsune, Fujiwara Masatsune, Fujiwara Tadakata, Fujiwara Ietaka, and Echizen.
 This paper examines nine waka poems by Gotoba no in Kunaikyo in the 360number uta-awase, along with the waka poems of other poets in their one-to-one relationship.
