Abstract

The authors developed a component-type mathematical model of hydrodynamic forces acting on a ship hull in steering motion and the availability of this model have been confirmed by experimental data. This model describes longitudinal force, lateral force and yaw moment, and it can cover a wide range motion with small to large yaw rate and drift angle. In this study, we developed a model of heel moment consist of lateral force elements. With this model, heel moment can be estimated with hydrodynamic characteristics analyzed from the above-mentioned other forces.
