Abstract

To assess the safety of a ship structure from the viewpoint of longitudinal strength, a series of progressive collapse analysis was performed on existing ships, and their ultimate longitudinal strength as well as sensitivities with respect to several design parameters were obtained. At the same time, wave-induced bending moment was calculated in a short-term irregular wave, and probabilistic characteristics of the wave-induced bending moment were obtained. On the basis of these results, reliabilty indeces were calculated, and the safety assessment was performed on existing ships.
