Diploid germ-line chromosomes were observed in males of the satyrid, Erebia niphonica, from Mitsumata, Kamishihoro-cho, Hokkaido. The chromosome number of 2n, 38 was determined, based on counts in six spermatogonia from three males. One of the diploid complements examined was shown in the figure.
