Abstract
A brief taxonomic and biological review of the monophyletic Hemileuce maia complex is presented. Hemileuca peigleri LEMAIRE, n. stat., from central Texas is elevated to full species rank, a new species, H. slosseri, from New Mexico and Texas is described, and H. artemis PACKARD, sp. rev., from New Mexico is resurrected from synonymy. Also presented is a discussion of hostplants, larval and adult moth diagnoses, reported diseases and insect parasitoids, and habitat conservation.
