Egg morphology of Plebejus argyrognomon (Lepidoptera, Lycaenidae) : Comparison between populations of Japan and the Korean Peninsula

Abstract

Morphological characteristics in the egg surface of Plebejus argyrognomon (Bergstrasser, 1779) were compared between Japan and the Korean Peninsula. In the Japanese subspecies, praeterinsularis (Verity, 1921), the fovea (a minutely webbed area around a micropyle) is evidently hollowed and narrower than that of the Korean Peninsula.
