A chromosome survey of eight species of Elymnias(Nymphalidae, Lepidoptera)

Abstract

Spermatogonial and spermatocyte chromosomes of eight species belonging to the genus Elymnias from Malaysia and Myanmar are examined, with particular reference to their haploid chromosome numbers. Their chromosome numbers are common n=26 (2n=52) and no variation in their haploid chromosome number was observed. The metaphase of chromosomes of spermatogonia and spermatocytes are round or dot like in shape in polar view.
