Abstract

Adult Stathmopodidae are notable for the presence of verticillbristles on the hind-legs and an unusual resting posture in which the hind-legs are elevated above the substrate. Larval feeding strategies are varied, and include predators and fern-spore-feeders. Currently, 12 genera and 56 species belonging to three subfamilies have been recorded in Japan. This paper provides a contemporary overview of the family in Japan and a key to Japanese subfamilies and genera.
