Fiber optical gyro sensors (FOGs) are widely used in space applications. Its mechanical robustness is attractive as an avionics on rocket, and smaller satellites or exploration probes, such as Hayabusa, chose FOG for its smaller size as inertial navigation class gyros. Advanced high performance FOGs achieve same or better performance than other high performance space gyros, and are spreading in the market. This paper shortly describes the current status of the FOGs in space.
