Space Coupling Optical Connecting Devices for Multicore Fibers

Abstract

Lens optics technology is reviewed for the design and fabrication of fan-in/fan-out devices to connect a multicore fi ber to single mode fi bers and optical connectors for multicore fi bers. We describe the design principle of lens coupling using spatial beam conversion theory for fan-in/fan-out devices and multicore fi ber connectors and show their optical characteristics. We also discuss the feasibility of the devices for multicore fi ber transmission systems.
