Abstract
The Nobel Prize in physics 2012 was awarded “for ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems”. The methods are based on optical technologies such as a laser, and will open a door to new quantum technologies in which light and matter interact in a qualitatively different manner.
