We present measurements of photobleaching spectra of fluorescent proteins using nonlinear Fouriertransform
spectroscopy with ultrabroadband femtosecond pulses. The photobleaching of enhanced green
fluorescent protein occurs through sequential three-photon process; one-photon excited-state absorption
following two-photon excitation from the ground state. On the other hand, the photobleaching of redform
Kaede shows complicated features occurring through sequential three-photon process or sequential
four-photon process. The latter corresponds to two-photon excited-state absorption following twophoton
excitation from the ground state.
