For measurements of hydrogen-atoms in high temperature plasmas by the laser fluorescence spectroscopy (LFS), a coherent light source tunable to Lyman alpha transition (La: 121.6 nm) was developed by means of the third harmonic generation (THG) in a krypton/argon mixture. Power of up to 30 W (4×1010 photons/pulse in 2.3 ns) was obtained which should be sufficient for measurements of atomic hydrogen density near a tokamakwall. It was also shown that it had a sufficient reliability and stability required for the light source of LFS, which was confirmed by an experiment of observing its absorption in hydrogen-atomsgenerated by DC dischargehydrogen molecules.
