Excited power distributions of an LD side-pumped Nd-YAG laser were examined using a geometrical model. Our calculated results were found to agree with those obtained in the experiments. The excited power distribution in a rod and the beam quality of the YAG oscillation were depending greatly on the geometrical position of the LD laser. Based on our model, multi-fold pumping geometries were also discussed.
