The oxidation of C2-hydrocarbons (ethane, ethylene, and acetylene) was studied with a shock tube connected with a mass spectrometer over the temperature range from 1300 to 2000 K and the total pressure ranging from 200 to 400 Torr in the O2/fuel ratios 1.25 - 4.5. The induction period (τ) was determined by monitoring the oxygen concentration, and the following equations were found to hold:
Ethane; τ=1.15×10-10 [C2H6]1 [O2]-1 exp (30000/RT),
Ethylene; τ=2.45×10-14 [O2]-1 exp (23000/RT),
Acetylene; τ=9.94×10-14 [O2]-1 exp (17000/RT),
where τ and the concentrations are expressed in s and mol/cm3, respectively.
