Abstract
Problems of charge accumulation on the sample surfacc of human intenal organ and quantitative interpretation of secondary ion intensity are briefly discussed and some typical applications are presented.
Relative concentrations of Fe, Cu, and Zn are measured by two methods: SIMS and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The AAS method is utilized to evaluate secondary ion intensities measured by SIMS. Relative secondary ion intensity of each element measured by SIMS are corrected in such a way as to be normalize by secondary oxygen ion intensity. The oxygen ions originate from oxygen implanted into the sample surface as primary ion species.
It appears that measurement of Zn, Fe and Cu in internal organs with oxygen ion bombardment has detection limits of approximately 0.3, 0.1, and 0.2 μg/g, repectively.
