The design and construction of a chemical ionization source for the JMS-D100 mass spectro meter are described. The source, equipped with a high speed pumping system, is desi gned to operate at ionization chamber pressures up to 5 Torr with the pressure of the ion source kept below 5×10-4 Torr. In order to ascertain the performance of this source, the chemical ionization spectra of isopropanol and tri-n-butylamine have been measured with methane and hydrogen as reactant gases. The variation of the ion intensities with ion repeller voltage is also described.
