In previous research, an analysis model named ‘beam on Vlasov foundation model’ was proposed to theoretically analyze the compliance and the energy release rate of sandwich single cantilever beam test specimens. The validity of the model was confirmed when it was applied to sandwich specimens with isotropic cores, such as a foamed plastic core. In this study, the beam analysis model is modified and extended to handle orthotropic cores, such as a honeycomb core. Then, its validity is verified by comparing with finite element analysis. Through the comparison with finite element analysis, it is confirmed that the beam model can provide reliable results even for test specimens with orthotropic core. A sensitivity analysis is also carried out to investigate the effect of the material properties of the test specimen with orthotropic core on the compliance and the energy release rate. It is found that the major effect of variation in material properties of face sheet and core can be reasonably well evaluated by the beam model.
