Concentration Depletions and Enhancements in the Range of Grain Boundaries

Abstract

In the course of investigations on grain boundary diffusion autoradiographs were produced at different depths parallel to the surface. In and near the specimen surface concentration depletions were found. This is at least a partial verification of Suzuoka’s instantaneous source model. A marked behaviour in agreement with the solution of Whipple is always to be expected when a small quantity of the deposited material diffuses during annealing.
