On the basis of the free volume theories of liquids, it has been shown that the heat of fusion of an alloy, heat of crystallisation of the corresponding glass and the parameters in the Doolittle expression for temperature dependence of viscosity of the undercooled melt are interrelated. Utilising the relationship obtained and the known viscous behaviour of Pd77.5Cu6Si16.5 and Au77Ge13.6Si9.4 alloy melts, the heats of crystallisation of these glasses could be evaluated accurately.
