Abstract
Magnetic property changes by cold-rolling associated with the γ→α transformation of fine γ-iron precipitates are systematically studied in copper rich copper-iron-aluminium alloys. The magnetization always increases with cold rolling reduction and the coercive force varies depending on the size of γ-iron particles. The variation of magnetization with rolling reduction of specimens is explained by the nucleation of martensite induced by moving dislocations cutting through the central part of precipitate particles, considering homogeneous and heterogeneous slip. The lower limit of size of γ-iron particle to transform into α-iron particle by dislocation cutting is not observed and might not exist. The characteristic and the variation of coercive force with reduction would originate with the mechanism of γ→α transformation and the deformation of α-iron particle depending on the size.
