Abstract
The activity coefficients of oxygen, γ0, in liquid Ag–In, Ag–Sn, Ag–Sb and Ag–Ge alloys were measured utilizing a modified coulometric titration method with the electrochemical cell:
O in liquid binary alloys/ZrO2(+CaO)/air, Pt.
The measured In γ0 values, plotted in terms of alloy composition, fitted in upwardly concave curves. The present results were discussed with respect to the periodic table, together with previous results in Ag–Tl–O, Ag–Pb–O and Ag–Bi–O systems. When the γ0 values calculated according to the model of Jacob and Alcock are taken as a reference, the measured In γ0 values shift downward, as the group of the alloying elements is changed from IIIb to Vb and the period decreases.
