The γ→α transformation process of very fine iron precipitates by cold-rolling are investigated by the magnetization measurement and the observation with transmission electron microscopy in copper base dilute iron alloys containing aluminium. The magnetization of the specimen with the γ-iron particles of mean diameter as small as 6.3 nm at 80 K is explained successfully from a model of γ→α transformation induced as a dislocation penetrates to the center of the particle. The saturation magnetic moment of the specimen on the rolling reduction expected from this model agrees well with that estimated from the observed mean diameter and number density of precipitates. Almost all very fine γ-iron precipitates transform into α-iron particles by heavy cold-rolling.
