The fiber textures developed in an extruded 2S aluminum alloy rod have been studied as a function of the position in the rod. The result shows that there are three different zones in the rod; central, intermediate and surface zones.
The central zone has an ordinary double fiber texture, [111]+[100], while the intermediate zone has a double fiber texture, inclined spiral [111]+ simple [100], and the surface zone has a texture composed of two preferred orientations (100) [\bar112] and (001)[100]. The transition of the texture from the central zone to the intermediate one is continuous and gradual.
