A new technique for determination of ratio of the intrinsic diffusivities with respect to the mole fixed frame of reference has been proposed. The characteristic of this technique is that diffusion couples after diffusion anneal must be torn off at the Kirkendall interface. One of the important problems of this technique is whether the diffusion couple can be torn off just at the Kirkendall interface. The usefulness of this technique has been confirmed by determining the ratio DSnN⁄DAgN in the Ag–Sn alloy. The diffusion couples consisting of pure Ag plate and Ag–Sn alloy plate have been torn off just at the Kirkendall interface. Other important problems to determine the ratios DSnN⁄DAgN in a precise manner by this technique have been described.
