Elastic Constants of Co₃Ti and CoTi Intermetallic Compounds

Abstract

The elastic constants of both the L1₂ type (Co, Ni)₃Ti and the B2 type CoTi compounds were measured at room temperature by a rectangular parallelepiped resonance (RPR) method. The elastic constants, c₁₁, c₁₂ and c₄₄, of (Co, Ni)₃Ti are 228, 148 and 129 GPa, respectively, while those of CoTi are 203, 129 and 68 GPa. The elastic anisotropy of the (Co, Ni)₃Ti is large (A=3.23), while that of the CoTi is relatively small (A=1.83).
