Abstract

A simple method for the numerical calculation of the concentration-penetration profile in vapor/semi-infinite solid diffusion couples has been proposed in consideration of the concentration dependences of interdiffusivity, \ ildeD , and molar volume, V.
With this method the concentration-penetration profiles for Cu–Zn vapor/semi-infinite solid diffusion couples, in which zinc atoms either penetrate into the pure copper or evaporate from Cu–Zn alloys, have been calculated by use of the values for \ ildeD obtained previously through solid-solid diffusion couples and the literature data for V.
