A structure image of R-phase in an aged Ti–Ni alloy was taken by a high resolution electron microscope, in which an image corresponding to the 1/3 (1\bar10)-type superlattice reflection appeared as parallel periodic lines with dark or bright contrast. The spacing of these parallel lines is three times larger than the (1\bar10) lattice spacing and there are no disturbances in the periodicity. The lateral arrangement of [111] atom columns is not disturbed either across these parallel lines within the present experimental limitation of electron microscope resolution.
